Sun Chemical shows commitment to the
Newspaper industry

ST MARY CRAY, UK - November 03, 2009 – Sun Chemical, the world’s leading manufacturer of printing inks and pigments, has once again shown its commitment to the Newspaper industry by investing in two brand new custom-made Ink Trailers.

This significant investment underlines Sun Chemical’s dedication to the newspaper industry as well as its strategy of added support to customers. Despite the current tough economic conditions, Sun Chemical is actually increasing its support for the newspaper industry by investing significantly in the sector.

By introducing new purpose-built trailers that can deliver larger quantities and that are certified to ADR specification, Sun Chemical has ensured the ability to supply its customers at all times. The new trailers have a total capacity of 27 tonnes each for Magenta, Yellow & Cyan combined, with colour coded valve controls, tank lids and delivery hoses to simplify operation.

These assets are not the only recent investment from Sun Chemical into the news inks industry. The company opened a new colours manufacturing facility in Slough earlier this year, which acts as the hub for Sun Chemical’s manufacture of coldset and flexographic newspaper inks for use within the print industry.

Peter Hepworth, Sun Chemical’s Publications Business Director for UK & Ireland, said: “We are dedicated to providing our customers with first class products and service through investing in the industry and its future.”

Website Upgrade and Improvements

Improvements to the Sun Consumables Website are being implemented to make it a more useful source of product information for customers and others seeking data on ancillary equipment and products consumed in the printing, packaging and conversion industry.

The changes are occurring in four distinct phases:

  • The removal of all prices and on-line buying. The introduction of an SAP based stock, ordering and invoicing system has ensured Sun Chemical are at the forefront of providing a level of commercial service to customers appropriate to the 21st Century. SAP is replacing other processes, including on-line ordering, that are independent of the integrated Central System.
Additionally the possible publication of out-of-date pricing information, as a consequence of rapidly fluctuating prices of chemicals and manufactured goods, has been eliminated.
    Status: Completed.

  • Product Re-Numbering. SAP has resulted in the re-numbering of products sold throughout Sun Chemical. Product Numbers are being updated on the website as part of the process of continuous improvement. In many cases it has been possible to bring together a range of product sizes or varieties under a single Product Code, so making it easier to find the required item.
    Status: Completed.

  • Revised Technical and Safety Information Sheets. As Product Numbers are revised, the Technical Information and Product Safety Sheets are being assessed and re-written to ensure the data given is both as accurate and as up-to-date as possible.
    Status: Ongoing.

  • New Products. A host of new products (particularly founts, washes, chemicals and silicones) have been added to the website and old, out-of-date ones eliminated, so ensuring only the best and most relevant products are offered.
    Status: Ongoing.

  • OUR OBJECTIVE is to provide YOU, our customer, with an easy reference on-line catalogue of consumables products that meet the increasing demands of our industry.

Sun Chemical Introduces New Global Brand Names for Sheetfed Conventional Inks

Wexham Springs, UK - September 14, 2009 - Sun Chemical unveiled new global brand names to describe its sheetfed conventional inks for commercial, packaging and plastics printing.

The global brand names, SunLit™ for commercial, SunPak™ for packaging, and SunTec™ for plastics printing, were developed to help sheetfed customers better recognize the Sun Chemical brand and easily identify the inks that they need.

Sun Chemical's current existing products in the commercial sheetfed market, Diamond and Exact PSO inks for example, will now be known as SunLit™ Diamond inks and SunLit™ Exact PSO inks.

The adoption of these global brand names will reduce the large number of brand name trademarks and eliminate any possible confusion about what products Sun Chemical has to meets its customers' needs.

Similar global brand names have already been created for Sun Chemical's packaging water and solvent-based, and energy curable businesses. In the area of energy curing, Sun Chemical has the recognizable global brand names of SunCure® and SunBeam®. Also introduced were the global brand names for the liquid inks businesses of SunSpectroT for surface printing of films, foils and non-wovens, SunStrato™ for lamination inks, and SunVisto™ for paper, board, towel and tissue printing applications.

"Sun Chemical's efforts to unify its global brands in the packaging, publication and coatings markets has been well accepted by customers and brand owners alike," said Felipe Mellado, Chief Marketing Officer, Sun Chemical. "We're confident that these branding changes will make it easier for customers to know what products they are looking for. It's another way for us to show our customers that we are working hard to better meet their needs."

EFTA RECOGNISES SUN CHEMICAL AS UNDISPUTED INDUSTRY LEADER

LONDON, ENGLAND – May, 26, 2009 - Sun Chemical has won the Technical Achievement/Environmental Award at the European Flexographic Trade Association (EFTA) annual print awards ceremony. This award recognises the company’s commitment to developing its green credentials, whilst also acknowledging its position as an industry leader in product development and innovation.

Following Sun Chemical’s decision to take a sabbatical from the EFTA “Supplier of the Year” award after winning it five times in its existing eight years, EFTA officially acknowledged Sun Chemical as an undisputed industry leader, by promoting testimonials from key customers,. Dean Stanford from Amcor Flexibles Ledbury describes the company as providing “innovative excellence and outstanding service and technical support”

The Technical Achievement/Environmental Award was presented to both Sun Chemical and co supplier Innovia Films of Cumbria, for the development of a new sustainable combination of biodegradable film and the hybrid ink range. Solvent-based hybrid inks are a new range of sustainable solutions offered by Sun Chemical and are designed for use on biodegradable films. The series of solvent based inks uses existing NC colour bases, which are then modified with renewable materials to give an ink that is approximately 80% derived as a wet ink and 50% as a dried ink film. Sun Chemical developed these inks in conjunction with Innovia Films for use on Innovia’s NatureFlex range of films.

Joanne Watkins, European Packaging Marketing Director for Sun Chemical and Bob Flagg Innovations Manager from Innovia Films, attended a gala dinner ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, where they were presented with the awards. Ms Watkins said: “We are thrilled to pick up this award at the event. As well as reaffirming Sun Chemical’s position as a leading technology innovator, the NatureFlex film project in conjunction with Innovia Films, is also a fine example of why Sun Chemical is repeatedly recognised as being a leading industry supplier by members of EFTA.

“The project illustrates how Sun Chemical works closely with its partners and customers to realise their new aspirations and goals, responding to customer needs and market trends.”

    Website Prices

We have all become aware of the rapidly changing prices of oil and its chemicals derivatives and steel products in our business and private lives. With this volatility and the increasing number of changes notified to us, it is likely that some product prices given on this Website will have been superseded.

Customers requiring an up to date price for any product, especially for one they have not recently ordered, may wish to confirm the latest prices by checking with their Sun Chemical Account Manager or local Sales Office.

Due to these circumstances we are having to add the following condition of sale:

“The prices shown on this Website constitute an offer for sale for the product and were, to the best of our knowledge, correct at the time of uploading. They may, however, have been superseded by later prices not yet published.

“All customers are advised to confirm the latest product prices and that they still meet their requirements.”

In the meantime we are updating the Website prices as quickly as possible and trust the delay in doing so will not cause too much inconvenience.

    Silicons Y silicone? … No, Y5

Sun Chemical Consumables has been actively introducing its new Silicone solutions to the Heatset market in 2006.

Through the year we have worked with customers and our development partner Wolfgang Spielberger to formulate the “new generation” of Silicone products.

This has cumulated in the Y5, a silicone solution not based on solid content but a product that helps optimise press speeds, cleans applicator roller and press super structures whilst helping both mechanical and manual handling.

We don’t just throw waxes at it!
Due to a patented manufacturing system we can help improve quality and reduce overall silicone spend.
    Cost x usage = Spend.
    Quality x spend = Y5.
